As you can tell from previous posts, I've absolutely been bitten by the "helping bug". I'm not sure if it’s because is gives my life more purpose, or if I'm empathetic towards those less fortunate, but I was asking myself last night; "How Can I Help?" To be honest, I'm saddened that there isn't another event going on this weekend. I enjoyed last weekend so very much, that I feel like if I don't do something, I'll lose momentum, but why should I have to wait for someone else to tell/ask/direct me? I shouldn't!!!
In our work-a-day world where we all have other responsibilities and time is at a premium, what small bit can we contribute daily that will really make a difference. Certainly, I've begun blogging about the activities that I participate in, but that doesn't give me the same feeling of accomplishment as an actual work day does... The key perhaps is to not be dependent on someone else ASKING for help, but OFFERING HELP, or JUST DOING SOMETHING. To that end, I'm going to make an effort to better my own local community during down time. As an example; I like to walk (even though I might not look it), but I could just as easily pick up trash while doing it. No pictures, no thank you's, no organizing; just one step towards improving things locally.
